1 Day Kigali Museums and Galleries Tour

Our guide will pick you up from your hotel accommodation at 8.00 am after having your morning breakfast and you set off to explore the Rwanda Museums and galleries. You will drive while enjoying the beautiful view of the town, chatting and sharing much about the history of Kigali, how it raised into famous being named the cleanest town in Africa. You will start your tour by visiting the Rwanda Art museum former Presidential Palace Museum, where the museum seeks to provide an insight into the originality of Rwandan creativity. Exploring the development of art from olden times to the modern day, it considers how traditional and modern imaginations can blend and fuse.

The flight debris from the presidential jet that went down on 6th April 1994 remain in situ in the garden and this will remain a heritage site. Then we proceed to Kigali Inema Art Center, the gallery that has become a beacon in Rwanda for cultivating creative expression. Inema Arts Center is a collective of Rwandan creative artists. At its core, Inema Arts Center provides space for 10 artists in residence to explore their creative talent. Specializing in contemporary African Arts, Crafts, Music, and Dance. Inema’s artists produce paintings, sculptures, and mixed media expressions showcased in, the Gallery at Inema Arts Center. The Center is home to programmes, projects, and initiatives that expand creative arts in Rwanda. Through workshops, trainings, and hands-on classes, the Inema Arts Center provides a space to fuel creative expression. After this gallery, we proceed with Kandt house museum, Richard Kandt was the first colonial governor of Rwanda, on behalf of Germany, until the early 1900s. The first part presents Rwandan life in all its aspects – social, economic, and political – before the colonial period.

The second part traces the experience of the Rwandan people during the colonial period. Following the Berlin Conference in 1884, the Germans ruled Rwanda until 1916, when the Belgians took over under the League of Nations Mandate after World War I. Richard Kandt’s life and deeds in Rwanda are covered here.

The third part covers the history of Kigali, before, during and after the colonial era. Kigali was made the capital upon independence in 1962. After Kandt house museum, the following is break and lunch in local restaurant.

Afternoon comprises 2 activities based on genocide against Tutsis happened in Rwanda in 1994, the first is the visit of Kigali Genocide memorial where over 250,000 people are buried. There is a visitor centre for students and those wishing to understand the events leading up to the genocide of 1994. Last stop will be the campaign against genocide museum, In honor of the young men and women who undertook the daunting task to liberate the country from the genocide machinery, the Government, among others, opened a museum at the Parliamentary Buildings in Kimihurura depicting their bravery and patriotism. Finally, the tour is ended by rooftop bar coffee at Ubumwe Grande Hotel for the view of Kigali at elevate point.
